A native of Denton, Texas, Melody has succeeded in making a positive difference in the world. A Denton High School (1981) graduate, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Austin College in Sherman, Texas (1985).
With a feverish compassion and dedication to women's rights, Melody went to St. Mary's Law School, inspired by Rosa Parks (1951-2005) American Civil Rights Activist. Rosa Parks sparked the successful 1955-56 Montgomery, Alabama, city boycott when she refused a driver's order to give a seat to a white man simply because she was black (as mandated by city ordinance); Indira Gandhi (1917-84) Indian politician. Indira Gandhi became the leader of the world's largest democracy in 1966 and for almost 22 years thereafter was the leading voice for India and the third world in international affairs; Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962), American humanitarian and diplomat, an activist first lady who made the position one of great, if unofficial influence. As a delegate to the fledgling United Nations in 1948, she played a central role in drafting and securing adoption of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights; and Helen Keller (1880-1968), American lecturer and writer awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1963, the year Melody was born, for her efforts to improve treatment of the deaf and blind were influential in removing the handicapped from asylums.
Melody is the Past President and Board Chairwoman of the Dallas Fort Worth/National Employment Lawyers Association (DFW-NELA), and she is an active member of the Texas Employment Lawyers Association (TELA). She was an active member of the Tarrant County Bar Association until this past year, as well as the Tarrant County Women's Bar, Tarrant County Trial Lawyers Association, Texas Trial Lawyers Association, American Trial Lawyers Association and the American Bar Association. She is a member of the Metroport Rotary Club and has volunteered her time to work on numerous pro bono legal causes.
In 2006, Melody came back to her home town of Denton, Texas, and joined the law office of another Denton native, Randall S. Boyd. She is a certified mediator (civil and commercial mediations) and on occasion, has been known to "effectively stump even the most powerful negotiators." Melody's style is honest, ethical, simple and direct.
Practice areas: Civil Litigation and Appeals.
